Trucker in Critical Condition After Accident on I-40

A Nashville trucker was reportedly in critical condition this morning after a crash at about 2 a.m. yesterday morning that halted westbound I-40 traffic for more than seven hours. At 9:35 a.m. all lanes of westbound I-40 were reopened, ending a traffic jam that began about 2 a.m. when two tractor trailer rigs wrecked just west of the Prosser Road overpass.

Apparently, one of the semi trucks rear-ended the other and knocked itt over the guardrail and down the embankment. The front semi was a 2005 Freightliner driven by James Chambers, age fifty-five. Chambers was hauling an empty trailer which was sent careening over the guardrail by the collision. Luckily, Chambers was treated and then released from Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. The driver responsible for the accident is reportedly William Clark Jr., age sixty of Nashville who was driving a 2009 Freightliner that crashed into the rear of the Chambers’s semi. He was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center where he was undergoing surgery and was listed in critical condition. Charges are reportedly pending the completion of the investigation.

Semi trucks make appearance in this blog often because of the simple fact that they are dangerous vehicles. Driving them requires an extra level of care, because a simple rear-end collision could, as it did here, send vehicles and vehicle parts flying all over the interstate and cause serious injury to any drivers or passengers nearby. For whatever reason, it appears Chambers chose not to obey the heightened standard of care imposed on semi truck drivers in Tennessee and was apparently either following too closely or simply not paying attention to the road.

Such accidents happen every day on Tennessee’s interstates and frequently cause serious injuries and death. Victims of semi-related negligence and their families deserve to recover for the injuries that may be caused by these dangerous vehicles. Consult an experienced Tennessee personal injury attorney today to find out how to recover for your losses.
