Texting May Be Cause of New Market Crash

Tennessee Highway Patrol Officials say Vitalina Nunes, a thirty-one year old woman from Jefferson City, Tennessee may have been texting when she had a one-car accident in her 2000 Ford Focus mini-van in New Market last Friday at around 7:50 a.m. She was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed when she crossed the highway divider and then overcorrected when she had noticed what she had done, causing the van to roll over five times and eject Nunes from the vehicle. She was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.

Texting while driving is a frequent topic on this blog site, because it is becoming increasingly common as a cause of traffic accidents. Drivers seem to think that this method of communicating while driving is relatively safe since it only takes a few seconds to send a short text, but studies have shown that drivers travel over the length of a football field without looking at the road when sending most texts, making such activity more dangerous than talking on the phone while driving and even more dangerous than driving under the influence in many cases. As discussed in our previous blog, efforts are being made to educate drivers as to how dangerous this behavior is in the hopes of avoiding accidents such as this one.

Texting while driving is among the most dangerous forms of negligent driving in Tennessee and shows no signs of slowing down as a leading cause of automobile accidents. Victims of texting related accidents and their families deserve to recover for injuries, lost wages, and other expenses that arise as a result of this type of negligent driving. Contact an East Tennessee personal injury attorney today to learn how you and your loved ones can recover for your losses.
