Two Dead and Seven Injured in Head-On Collision
Highway 10 in Lafayette, Tennessee played host to a deadly motor vehicle accident late Tuesday afternoon when a van full of migrant workers and a semi-truck crashed head-on. The van was reportedly turning left at the time of the accident, so it seems likely that the van turned into the path of the semi which caused the crash. Two of the van’s occupants died at the scene while five other passengers were taken to the hospital by helicopter. Three were in critical condition Tuesday evening, one was critical but stable and one was stable. The semi-truck driver was not injured. Thoughts go out to everyone involved in this tragic collision as well as their friends and families.
An unfortunate truth about driving any type of motor vehicle is that it only takes a momentary loss of concentration or one poor decision to result in a fatal mistake. It should be pointed out that no cause of this wreck has actually been determined although it does sound like the van may have turned left in front of the semi-truck and caused the head-on collision. There is no indication of why the driver may have turned in front of oncoming traffic, but generally such situations are the cause of some form of negligence such as failure to keep a proper lookout, distracted driving, or even driving under the influence of some substance.
Whatever the cause of the accident, it unfortunately ended up costing two victims their lives as well as injuring seven more. Tennessee law allows these individuals to recover for their injuries by bringing a personal injury lawsuit against the party or parties responsible for the accident in order to recover for their damages. There are several different theories of recovery depending on the cause of the accident and extent of the injuries, but it seems like wrongful death may be an issue here as well as extensive medical bills on behalf of a number of the parties. Tennesseans who are injured as the result of another driver’s negligence need to know how they can recover for their losses and from whom they can seek recovery.
